Let's "Dance"!

The time has come to begin dancing at Cornerstone Fellowship. Most look and feel ridiculous when it comes to such but that may be just what we need to do. In a recent sermon we looked at how David ignored any concerns for personal dignity and striped down to a loin cloth and danced as the people brought the ark of the covenant into Jerusalem (II Sam 6). While Michal, the daughter of Saul despised him for such an act of reckless indignity, God was pleased with David and cursed Michal for her attitude.

Through this passage God spoke to our hearts that the time has come for us to dance a little as well. Not necessarily through the moving of our bodies but by allowing God to move our hearts to the point that we dethrone our pride and fear and recklessly serve and give. To perhaps do something that we have been afraid to do because of selfish concerns with personal countenance and pose. Some live in an unfortunate state of paralysis as they weigh every move and decision terrified that the outcome may not support the image they tenaciously guard. In fact, some of the most gifted and well educated people in our churches rarely contribute to their full potential, or at all, because of their judicious efforts to never appear foolish.

However, our faith began in stable and later led to a stripped-naked slaughter of Christ on a apparatus intended for the common delinquent. Why then should we assume that we can die with Christ without naked transparency and some measure of humiliation. The call of the Gospel is to come and die.

So, let’s dance. When it is time to give without regard and to serve in areas that may not feature our strengths let’s dance. When as a church we cast vision about what we believe that God can do through us in 2010 concerning staffing, missions, facility expansion, discipleship, public expressions of worship etc... let’s dance!
